Kooperations-Workshop "Nebel in ariden Gebieten"
The Chilean-German research collaboration between the Department of Geography - Research Group for Earth Observation (rgeo) at Heidelberg University of Education & Heidelberg University and the Centro UC Desierto de Atacama at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile has organized the workshop "Fog in arid Regions" on July 23rd.
The workshop was led by Prof. Dr. Alexander Siegmund and Dr. Camilo del Río and was attended by many researchers related to fog investigations in different arid regions, with special emphasis on Atacama and Namib. Dr. Jan Schween (University of Cologne), Prof. Dr. Jörg Bendix (University of Marburg) and Prof. Dr. Jan Cermak (Karlsruher Institut für Technologie) presented the progress of their research.
Prof. Dr. Alexander Siegmund (rgeo )and PhD student Juan Carlos Pastene presented "The coastal fog research in the Atacama Desert - Understanding biosphere-atmosphere interactions on the driest place on Earth", a general framework of ongoing research on the fog climate and its interaction with fog ecosystems. Dr. Camilo del Río presented the overall concept of his project related to the construction of the fog water map on the coast of the Atacama Desert.
The objectives of the workshop were the exchange of knowledge, discussing various research questions and advances about fog climatology and fog ecosystems as well as discussing potential future co-operations.

Die chilenisch-deutsche Forschungs-Kollaboration zwischen der Abteilung für Geographie – Research Group for Earth Observation (rgeo) der Pädagogischen Hochschule Heidelberg, der Universität Heidelberg und des Centro UC Desierto de Atacama at Pontificia Universidad Católica in Chile hat am 23. Juli 2021 einen Workshop zum Thema "Nebel in ariden Gebieten" ausgerichtet.
Der Workshop wurde von Prof. Dr. Alexander Siegmund und Dr. Camilo del Río geleitet und zahlreichen Wissenschaftler*innen aus dem Bereich der Nebelforschung in Trockengebieten mit dem geographischen Schwerpunkt auf die Atacama und der Namib Wüste, besucht.
Dr. Jan Schween (Universität Köln), Prof. Dr. Jörg Bendix (Universität Marburg) und Prof. Dr. Jan Cermak (Karlsruher Institut für Technologie) stellten den neuesten Stand ihrer Forschung vor.
Prof. Dr. Alexander Siegmund und Juan Carlos Pastene von rgeo präsentierten in ihrem Vortrag "Erforschung küstennaher Nebelbildung in der Atacama-Wüste – Biosphäre-Atmosphäre-Interaktionen am trockensten Ort der Welt verstehen" ein generelles Framework der aktuellen Erforschung von Nebel-Klima und seinen Interaktionen mit Nebel-Ökosystemen.
Dr. Camilo del Río präsentierte das übergreifende Konzept seines Projekts zur Konstruktion der Nebel-Wasser-Karte an der Küste der Atacama Wüste. Das Ziel des Workshops lag darin, neue Erkenntnisse und Forschungsfragen aus dem Bereich der Nebel-Klimawissenschaft und Nebel-Ökosystemen zu diskutieren und zukünftige Kooperationen zu planen.
